Australian Tennis Legends Gather to Honor Neale Fraser at State Funeral

A gathering of Australian tennis legends convened in Melbourne to pay tribute to the esteemed Neale Fraser during a state funeral.

On Wednesday morning, the tennis community assembled at St Patrick's Cathedral to commemorate Fraser, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 91 in his Melbourne residence.

Fraser, AO, MBE, achieved a remarkable total of 19 grand slam titles, yet he is most renowned for his significant contributions to the Davis Cup, both as a player and during his record-setting tenure as the Australian captain. A three-time grand slam singles champion, Fraser triumphed over Rod Laver in a notable all-Australian Wimbledon men's final in 1960.

Additionally, he secured two US Open singles titles, defeating Laver in 1960, following his victory over Peru-born American Alex Olmedo the previous year.

Rising to prominence during the golden age of Australian men's tennis, Fraser also accumulated 16 grand slam doubles titles, achieving a career slam in the men's category, along with five mixed doubles championships.
