Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: European Commission Confirms Cyberattack Targeting Cloud Infrastructure

European Commission Confirms Cyberattack Targeting Cloud Infrastructure:

The European Commission has officially acknowledged a cyberattack after reports emerged that hackers gained access to large volumes of its data stored in the cloud.

According to Commission spokesperson Nika Blazevic, the breach impacted a segment of the organization’s cloud infrastructure. She stated that immediate action was taken to contain the incident, along with the implementation of measures to reduce potential risks. An investigation is currently underway, but officials have confirmed that the Commission’s internal systems remain unaffected.

Further details released by the Commission indicate that the attack specifically targeted the cloud environment supporting its web presence on the Europa.eu platform, which hosts a significant portion of its public-facing data.

Earlier reports suggested that hackers may have extracted hundreds of gigabytes of data, including several databases, from the Commission’s cloud account hosted on Amazon Web Services. Evidence of the breach, such as screenshots demonstrating unauthorized access, was reportedly shared with media outlets.
