Uber and WeRide Expand Driverless Robotaxi Services Across Dubai:

Uber has partnered with Chinese autonomous driving firm WeRide to roll out fully driverless robotaxi services in Dubai, marking a major step forward in their Middle East expansion.

Passengers can now book these autonomous rides directly through the Uber app. The service is currently operating in several key areas, including Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Investment Park Second, Jebel Ali Industrial First, suburban neighborhoods, and the busy maritime hub of Al Hamriya Port. Local operations are managed by Tawasul, ensuring smooth fleet management within the region.

This launch builds on an earlier pilot introduced in December, when the companies tested robotaxis with safety drivers onboard and offered free rides. Following successful trials, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority granted a permit last month to operate vehicles without human drivers—paving the way for this full-scale deployment.

The expansion highlights Uber’s deepening investment in WeRide. The company holds a 5.82% stake in WeRide, valued at approximately $150 million, after previously investing $100 million in 2025 as part of a broader partnership. Together, the companies plan to bring robotaxi services to around 15 additional cities over the next five years, including locations in Europe.

Under this collaboration, Uber manages ride bookings, routing, and customer access through its platform, while WeRide provides the autonomous driving technology. This model mirrors Uber’s approach in its partnership with Waymo, where responsibilities are similarly divided.

Overall, the Dubai rollout represents a significant milestone in the global push toward autonomous transportation, reinforcing both companies’ vision of a future where human-driven and driverless vehicles operate side by side.
